MANILA — Ilonggo Palanca Hall of Fame awardee Peter Solis Nery is a finalist in “The Artist” category of news site rappler.com’s Do More Awards.
Nery was nominated for his contribution to the regional literature in Western Visayas.
“I have that longing for the motherland so the love for Hiligaynon grows more,” the California-based orthopedic nurse said.
Online public voting at rappler.com/domoreawards will determine the winner. To vote, just click on the nominee’s photo. Voting ends on November 14.
Rappler.com said the awards recognize those “who have the courage to challenge the status quo.”
Two other artists – muralist AG Sano and graphic designer Dan Matutina – were nominated in the same category.
To date, Nery, a University of the Philippines alumnus, has authored 14 books and wrote screenplays that won the Philippine Centennial Literary Prize, the Cinemanila International Film Festival Script Writing Competition
and the Film Development Foundation of the Philippines’ Screenwriting Contest.
“When I look at the question of happiness, it is finding your purpose and being involved,” stressed Nery.
Following his induction to the Palanca Hall of Fame, the poet-fictionist established the Peter Solis Nery Foundation for Hiligaynon Literature and the Arts “to preserve, promote and propagate Hiligaynon Literature.
Before the year ends, he will publish two anthology books (one for 200 new Hiligaynon poems and the other for 125 new Hiligaynon short stories).
Last month, Nery won another gold for Hiligaynon short story in the Don Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards.
Other categories for the Do More Awards are The Challenger, The Innovator, The Luminary, The Social Entrepreneur, The Civic Hero, The Digital Trailblazer, and the Global Pinoy.
